Cyclocross and Gravel Bikes: What's the difference? 

Some people might just say that it is a marketing scam, but there are real differences between CX bikes and Gravel bikes. Can you grind on a 'cross bike? Of course. Can you cross race on a grinder? Sure. But there are differences. 

Cyclocross bikes are designed for racing, and therefore they will typically be slightly more agile bikes. Steeper headtube angles, shorter wheelbases, and higher BBs make them quicker handling. Companies also route cables so they don't get in the way when shouldering the bike, and true race bikes won't have superfluous rack and fender mounts (to save weight). Some don't even have bottle cage bolts. 

Gravel bikes usually have longer wheelbases and slightly more relaxed geometries with lower BBs. This makes them a little more stable at higher speeds (think riding downhill on the road). They also usually have more tire clearance so you can run 40 or 42mm tires, and fender and rack mounts. Gravel Grinders tend to be a little more comfortable, designed for the long, rough rides.
