Bend, Ore, Dec. 20, 2001 -- Kevin Gorman, president of WebCyclery, today announced that the company's 2002 advertising campaign will include the purchase of a 170-foot blimp emblazoned with the WebCyclery logo.
The airship, tentatively named the Spirit of WebCyclery, will be based at Roberts Field in Redmond, Oregon. It is currently undergoing test flights and will make it's first public appearance on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002 at Super Bowl XXXVI in New Orleans.
"I'm really excited about it," said Gorman. "We've wanted to do this for a few years, but the numbers just never added up, until now. We decided to pass on the 30-second commercial spots during the Super Bowl this year and put that million towards the blimp."
Gorman expects the airship to log over 100,000 miles in 2002, traveling across the US and Europe. The zeppelin is already scheduled to appear at numerous events, including the US Auto Show, the Miss America Pageant and the Cheerleading World Championships.
"We should have done this years ago. I can't think of a better way to target the cycling community than with the Spirit of WebCyclery," said Gorman.
In related news, Kevin announced that his brother, product manager and head mechanic "MeanTodd" Gorman, has been promoted to chief pilot of the airship.
"This is a tremendous surprise because I've never really flown a blimp before, or anything else for that matter," said MeanTodd. "I think our customers are really going to love it."
