Bend, Ore, January 20, 2002 -- Kevin Gorman, president of WebCyclery, learned today of a record setting auction on Ebay, the worlds largest online auction site. The auction items, a set of 1998 WebCyclery Bobbleheads depicting Kevin himself and MeanTodd, sold for an unprecedented $ 942, nearly doubling the previous record price paid for a set of Bobbleheads.
"I really think that this is a sign of great things to come," said Gorman. "If people are willing to spend that much on Bobbleheads, just think how much they will be willing to spend on our great customer service."
The Bobbleheads, which were part of a 1998 advertising campaign, stand five inches tall and are made of real plastic. The toys originally sold for $ 2.99 each. The auctions closing price of $ 942 represents an increase of over 1500%.
The Bobbleheads were part of a collection that was being auctioned thoughout January. The auction, which experts predicted to be a dud, started off slow, but by Saturday, January 19th, became an all out bidding war that included bids from 73 unique bidders.
When told of the news, MeanTodd said "Wow, $ 942! That's great! I still have two boxes of those things in my basement."
